The next purchase you make at Wal-Mart could be tracked back to your home. Or at least that’s what some consumers are concerned about.

In Atlanta stores and nationwide, the giant retailer is putting electronic identification tags on clothing starting in August, in a move to gain more control of its inventory. But it’s raising red flags among privacy experts.

Why the concern about this? Im guessing that you can remove the tags when you are out of the store, or more likely they will be removed before you leave.

I was in my local China-Mart a couple of weeks ago while they were taking inventory. In most isles there was an employee kneeling down with a small electronic scanner aimed at the shelves accompanied by lots of beeps as the data was entered. Then I came to one isle where a Gal stood at the end of the isle and swung her scanner around her head, getting far more beeps than the others. She obviously found a short cut! I asked what she was doing and she replied "taking inventory". She was in the pet food isle.

RFID tags are sewn in at the factory. They cannot be seen, nor removed easily. To kill the RFID chip you can subject the items to a strong magnetic field, or you can nuke them in a microwave.
